Bildungsurlaub in 5 steps

Educational leave with funding – here’s how

Step Nº 01/05

Research a course

Find a suitable training course or Bildungsurlaub – for example via meinbildungsurlaub.de. Important: The course must be quality-assured and meet ILB’s requirements.

Step Nº 02/05

Seek advice

Get advice from the Federal Employment Agency, your Jobcenter, or directly from the Investment Bank of Brandenburg (ILB) to see if your course is eligible.

Step Nº 03/05

Prepare your application

Gather all the necessary documents:

  1. Details about the course (description, duration, costs)
  2. If applicable, proof of professional need or labor shortage occupation
  3. Identification documents
Step Nº 04/05

Apply at the ILB

Submit your application before the course starts to the Investment Bank of the State of Brandenburg. You can apply twice a year – also for two different courses.

Important: You must submit your application to the ILB before registering for a course, reserving a place, or signing a contract.

Once you’ve submitted the application and received confirmation, you can enroll in the course.

Step Nº 05/05

Receive funding

You pay the full course fee upfront to the provider. The funding will be reimbursed after the course, once you prove how the funds were used (this is called a “proof of use” or “Verwendungsnachweis”).

Extra tip: Your course doesn’t yet meet all the criteria for the Bildungsscheck? Then ask the ILB or your provider about alternatives like the Bildungsgutschein, e.g. in case of potential unemployment or to support a vocational qualification (but not full formal training like master craftsman or specialist diplomas).

Conclusion: Education pays off – and Brandenburg supports you!

With the Bildungsscheck Brandenburg, your desire for career change, development, or reorientation becomes realistically achievable. Whether digital, social, creative, or hands-on – if you want more from your job and life, now’s the time.
